 “We liked it so much we bought the company”This was 1994, since then Len and Dot Knox have built up the business producing the non-alcoholic ginger drink from home and selling it at Craft Fairs and then from Farmers Markets. The numbers of retail outlets, including Farm Shops, Health Food Shops, Garden Centres and Delis have also grown (see stockists page). Son and Daughter-in-law, Chris and Rosemary Knox have now joined Len and Dot and have taken over the general day to day running of the business. Due to the increased turnover the production now takes place on a local farm. Gran Stead is not just a name – she was a very real
person. Christiana Stead was born in 1898 in a small country village
called Middleton-in-Teesdale in the north of England. The recipe
- now over 150 years old and passed on by Christiana Stead
- uses all natural ingredients, including the oil extracted from
the rhizome of the ginger plant. The result is a mellow, versatile drink
for both summer and winter. (see recipes page
